Not to be missed – Nathaniel at Copped Hall, the London Handel Festival’s Autumn programme – and jazz in Highgate

Nathaniel at Copped Hall on Saturday

Harpsichord (and Nathaniel Mander) enthusiasts might fancy a trip to Epping Forest next Saturday afternoon where Nathaniel will be playing at Copped Hall, a fine Georgian mansion which has been saved from the developers and restored by a group of local volunteers and conservation societies.

However, do not delay as there were only 10 tickets left when I looked this morning. Book here.

London Handel Festival Autumn Programme

The LHF’s autumn programme kicks off on Tuesday 23rd September with three performances at the Handel Hendrix House. In the intimate setting of Handel’s own parlour singers from the Cambrige Handel Opera and their director, Julian Perkins, ‘will weave arias from Handle’s penultimate opera, Imeneo, in with anecdotes and insights into Handel’s creative process’.

Wednesday 15th October sees the launch of the 2026 Festival Programme at St George’s Hanover Square – a members only event.

On Wednesday 19th November the London Handel Players will be celebrating their 25th anniversary at St George’s along with former LHF director Laurence Cummings and baroque dancers Mary Collins and Steve Player.

And, of course……  on Thursday 4th December – the Messiah. The LHF’s annual outing of Handel’s much loved Messiah. Always a sell out so, if you are keen, book early!

More details and tickets for all events here.

Sunday lunchtime jazz on 27th September

On Sunday 27th Sol Grimshaw, our very first performer at the Highgate Society Sunday lunchtime concerts, will be back at 10a for some gentle jazz, washed down with several glasses of Bucks Fizz.  Those who heard him play at our jazz in the garden party last month will know what a pleasant hour that will be.

£15 for the concert and the Bucks Fizz – book here.

And then – off to Vienna…

Sunday 5th October – Trio Notturno at Hampstead Lane

Jamie Akers, Rachel Stott and Eva Caballero bring us a feast of early 19th century guitar music from the intimate salons of Vienna. The evening includes wine and a buffet supper.

For the full programme and to book go here.

Monday 13th October – The basset horns in Vienna

Basset horn enthusiasts will be delighted to hear that at 7pm on Monday 13th October the Basset Horn Ladies of the Vauxhall Band will be playing music from late 18th century Vienna at all Saint’s Church in East Finchley.

‘Pieces by Mozart, Beethoven’s ‘beloved brother‘ Franz Anton Hoffmeister, and Bohemian in Vienna Georg Druschetzky. Plus Mozart’s Italian opera inspiration Giovanni Paisiello, and member of his all-star string quartet (along with Haydn and Vanhal), composer and violinist Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf.’

To book go here.

And do not forget to look at our Upcoming Events page for other concerts not listed in this post.
