This list is primarily for events happening at Hampstead Lane, the Highgate School Chapel or the Highgate Society, but we may also occasionally include other performances by artists who have played for us or which have some local relevance.

14-19th October – Leeds. Red Violin Festival
Madeleine Mitchell’s Red Violin Festival returns from 14-19 October in Leeds, featuring two premieres by James B Wilson and Heggie Scheer.

Tuesday 15th October – 7pm – St George’s Hanover Square
The second of the London Handel Festival’s autumn series presents ‘Jane Barbier – Shrew’d Syren’. Opera Settecento and Musical Director Leo Duarte perform a special programme that explores works that made Barbier famous and tells the story of her infamous life.

Friday 1st November – 7pm – Vermeer Chamber Concerts -Hampstead
Nathaniel Mander and Sijie Chen offer a programme of devilish and angelic Baroque sonatas for the Hallowe’en weekend! Works by Tartini, Paganini and Scarlatti, Arcangelo Corelli, de La Guerre and J.S. Bach.

Thursday 7th November – 6pm – Highgate Rush Hour concert
London launch of William Jack’s This Old Cello Box Vol 2 – just premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe. ‘An album rich in traditions, but not encumbered by them, the music transitions seamlessly from virtuosic folk & bluegrass to non-Western sound worlds.‘

Wednesday 27th November – 6.30pm – Hampstead Lane
Shirley Smart and Tobie Medland – Kodaly meets jazz and improv. Highgate ‘regular’ cellist Shirley Smart is joined by violinist Tobie Medland for an exciting programme which includes Zoltán Kodály’s Duo for Violin and Cello along with both classical and contemporaroy jazz works.

Sunday 1st December – 12 noon – Highgate Society Lunchtime Concert
The Society is delighted to welcome violinist Joana Ly and pianist Martin André, founders the very successful Islington Festival, to their Sunday lunchtime concert. They will be playing charming salon pieces from colourful late 19th and early 20th century composers.

Wednesday 4th December – 7pm – Vermeer Chamber Concerts – Hampstead
The first period instrument string quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists, the Consone Quartet return to present a programme of rarely heard works by well-known composers of the first and second Viennese schools.

Friday 6th December – 7pm – The Foundling Museum
The Bougies Baroques’s ‘Queer Messiah’ – ‘a pastiche of Handel’s Messiah exploring what the concept of a saviour or ‘messiah’ means from a queer perspective. While we are modifying the libretto as & when needed to reflect this approach, the Bougies Baroques will not be messing with Handel’s powerful music itself — which, in its original form, has the power to fortify both the original & modified libretto.’
