All go for the Highgate Festival – 11th – 19th June

Although they have not yet been posted on their website, this year’s Highgate Festival is going to be crammed with goodies – musical and other. So we thought we would get in there early with the low down on what we are planning.

This year there will be two concerts in the Highgate School chapel – early evening on the 16th and 18th June – and then one of our Highgate Society Sunday lunchtime concerts on the 19th.

So…..

16th June – Balladeste – Songs without Words

Preetha Narayanan (violin) and Tara Franks (cello player and sister of Clemmie who, as a member of Voice Trio, sang at our wonderful Hildegard of Bingen concert in November) explore the sound potential of their two string instruments.  Combining contemporary minimalism, Indian classical and folk, they will be playing all original repertoire from their albums ‘Relic’ and ‘Beyond Breath’.

6.30pm at the chapel –  £20 to include a free glass of wine. Book here.

18th June – Focus on the viola

Charles Bodman Whittacker, who gave us a lovely concert with his Alacris Quartet at the 2021 festival, accompanied by pianist  George Fradley will be playing a lunchtime concert for us: four pieces that celebrate the warm, rich tones of the viola.
Brahms – Sonata in F Minor Op.120 No 1
Frank Bridges – Two Pieces for viola and piano – Pensiero and Allegro Appassionato
Paul Hindemith – Viola solo sonata Op. 25 No. 1
Eric Tanguy – Rhapsodie

1pm at the chapel –  £20 to include a free glass of Bucks fizz.  Book here.

19th June – The Reliables

For the Highgate Society’s Sunday lunchtime concert on the 19th we going ‘all Highgate’ with The Reliables – a jazz group led by our very own Robert Pfeiffer, a Cholmeley Crescent resident for 25 years and a licensed Reader at St Michael’s for 15 years!
Robert on guitar, David Barrows on sax and Michael Searl on bass, play classy jazz in the hard bop tradition but stretching the boundaries – cool but swinging…..

12 noon at 10A South Grove –  £15 to include a free glass of Bucks Fizz. Book here.

Meanwhile….. Don’t forget…

This coming Sunday we have the Highgate Society’s romantic Viennese café music concert with Joana Ly and Martin André at 10a South Grove.
There are still a few tickets left – but only a few so book up now if you are interested.

12 noon –  £15 to include a glass of Bucks Fizz. Book here.

And………

The ‘real’ salons resume on 7th July with the Korros Ensemble at 33 Hampstead Lane.
A glass of wine – English women composers – Elizabeth Poston, Catron Finch, Cheryl Frances Hoad – and then a light buffet supper.
It is a while away but tickets are selling well so do not delay too long!

For the full programme and to book – go here.
