Music from San Lazzaro, La Pompadour’s Christmas party – and 2027

Music from SanLazzaro

We had a totally delightful evening at the end of last month with the Intesa Duo – Lucine, Nathan and their lovely viol da gambas. The love songs – mainly tragic…- of Barbara Strozzi, Settimia Caccini and Claudio Monteverdi – intermingled with haunting Armenian folk tunes. I had hoped to give you a short sample but technology and I have fallen out this afternoon so instead I will point you to their site where you can hear them play or….  Even better….

On 25th November at 11.15am Intesa will be playing at Kenwood House as part of the City Music Foundation’s new residency at the house. You can book tickets here.

In fact, Intesa are one one of a series of five concerts at Kenwood in the last week of the month:

  • 23rd November – Eleanor and Gus Duo – voice, guitar and double bass
  • 24th November – George Robarts and Edward Picton Tubervill – baritone and piano
  • 25th November – Intesa
  • 26th November – Antoine Préat – piano
  • 27th November – Paddington Trio – violin, cello and piano

La Pompadour’s Christmas Party

I know that those of you who have booked for La Pompadour’s Christmas party on December 10th are very anxious to know what she would like you to wear, what you might be offered to drink – and indeed to eat – whether she would like you to actually join her in some musical activities.  So I messaged Nathaniel last week. He had a discussion with the lady over the weekend – and he and I had a meeting today.

La Pompadour asked him to tell you that she is very much looking forward to seeing you all and she hopes that you will all dress up for the occasion – although she doesn’t think that furry Christmas jumpers would be quite the thing at Versailles.

She has had a discussion with Nathaniel about music and they are working on some festive airs which would have been popular at the palace and which she will ask Nathaniel to explain to you. She also hopes that you will join them in a roundelay before the evening is out.

She has also heard that a warming mulled wine is very popular in England and, provided no one is reckless enough to put a glass down on any of her roses, she thinks you might enjoy that. Especially if paired with lots of hot mince pies which she understands are also very delicious.

If anyone has any further queries, please let me know….

We are fully booked for this concert but if you would like to put yourself on a waiting list you can do so here.
