The first few weeks of July will be busy indeed for us – and we hope you will be joining us for several of the events. So, have you booked for…..

Sunday 6th July – 6.30pm. The Vauxhall Band Basset Horn Trio
The wonderful Katherine Spencer, Fiona Mitchell and Sarah Thurlow, The Vauxhall Band Basset Horn Trio, will be joined by Chris Rawley and his bassoons for a programme of music by Mozart and his contemporaries. Followed by a ‘Vauxhall Gardens’ supper – but hopefully a more generous one than you might have been offered at the gardens themselves! (See here….)

Friday 11th – Sunday 20th July – Islington Festival
Then on Friday 11th, the first concert in this year’s Simple Gifts Islington Festival of Music and Art.

Our garden opening for the NGS – 22nd June
I am afraid that my phone was extremely busy all afternoon taking money for cakes and as a result I completely failed to get any videos of our lovely musicians. So I am very grateful to my good friend Ruth Rosenthal who came to my rescue with these pictures of the visitors enjoying the Secret Life Sax Quartet. And here are the quartet in full voice – and in severe danger of being decapitated by an apple!
Sadly, I have nothing to show you for our lovely guitarist, James McClusky or our jazz cellist William Jack – although you can get a flavour of William’s playing here and of James right here.
As for the cakes….. They were pretty spectacular thanks to a team of five cake makers plus my good friend Alison who had just dropped in from Portugal and set to with a will – and her whisk. This is shift one cake sellers, Elizabeth and Karen!
And this, just to give you a bit more context, is our ecologist colleague Michael Holland looking down over our Growing Garden project which we have been developing with the Urban Forest Tribe.
The day was great fun – and satisfyingly profitable. Between entry fees for our 160 visitors, sales of plants and sales of cakes we raised £1,200!
More music in the garden – Sunday 31st August
Those of you who missed it however, will be glad to hear that I have just booked the lovely Sol Grimshaw and his group for our annual jazz garden party on 31st August – so pencil it into your diary. I can’t promise much in the way of cakes – but I can promise some excellent jazz, bread, cheese and beer! Booking details to come shortly.
