The ‘real’ salons resume

Salon Music evenings as originally envisaged were not just about music although music was obviously a crucial part. They were a whole evening’s entertainment – a glass of wine, some interesting music, a light buffet supper and a chance to socialise with like-minded music lovers. As those of you who came to any of the concerts before I left Lawn Road will know, that is what our first concerts were.

And that is what I had planned for my new house in Hampstead Lane. But then there was COVID – not to mention twenty Bulgarian builders.

We have been very fortunate to have the use of the Highgate School Chapel for the last year so have at least been able to continue with the music part of the project. And I hope that we will be able to use the chapel again in the future for projects which would not fit in the house.

But now that both COVID and the Bulgarian builders are in retreat I am delighted to say that on July 7th we will be throwing open the doors of 33 Hampstead Lane for the full Salon Music ‘experience’!

So, on the 7th July….

We will be celebrating our re-opening with the Korros Ensemble and English women composers. We had originally planned this concert to coincide with International Women’s Day in March but in fact the re-opening of our Salons seems a much more appropriate day.

I cannot promise that 33 Hampstead Lane will be entirely finished – I suspect that ‘finishing’ it may take several years. But it will certainly be finished enough to accommodate our musicians and our guests. And, if we are lucky and the weather is clement, you will be able to spill out onto the balcony and into the garden.

Date, time and programme

  • Date: Thursday 7th July.
  • Time:
Because it is difficult for those who do not live in Highgate to make a 6.30 start – and since this evening will include supper:
7pm – Doors open for a glass of wine
    7.30pm – Concert
    8.30pm – Buffet supper
  • Programme:
Music by Scarlatti, Elizabeth Poston, Cheryl Frances-Hoad,  Howard Blake and Catrin Finch
  • Cost:  £25/head to include wine and supper

It sounds brilliant and I’m only sorry Howard and I will be away for this one. We’ll hope for better luck next time ; meanwhile, very best for the 7th of the 7th, for the last good moments with your Bulgarians, and a brilliant summer ! We may try to bother you earlier than all this, with a visit, later this month or early in June. Emma

So sorry indeed that you won’t be around on the 7th (of the 7th) but I hope that you have a wonderful trip. Menwhile, please do come any time. I cannot promise what state either I or the house will be for the next few weeks – but you will always be welcome!

Congratulations Michelle, that’s great news! I look forward to seeing the nearly-finished palace!
And to the soirées of course 🙂
    See you soon,
    Joana
