The dog days of a parched summer are upon us – and, as you can see, they cannot come too soon for my garden. Garden aside, when the last night of the Proms hoves into view, you know that summer is definitely on the way out.
But the arrival of autumn opens the door to a lot of exciting music making in the run up to Christmas. Like many of you, I suspect, my in-box is already bulging with autumn programmes. So to mention only a very few – and starting, obviously with our own!

The London Handel Festival
The London Handel Festival is also staging a Christmas party – in the Handel Hendrix House:
Tuesday 15th December – explore the whole of Handel’s house with a mince pie and a glass in hand – while being serenaded by musicians and carol singers presenting pop-up performances of seasonal music inspired by the sounds Handel himself would have known. Book here.
But before that , on Thursday 24th September you could sit in on a dinner party at Handel’s house. ‘It is 1733, and Gustavus Waltz, Handel’s cook and an up-and-coming bass, has become increasingly disgruntled with his overworked and self-absorbed employer. Seeking revenge, Waltz takes it upon himself to organise a mischievous dinner party at Handel’s house on Brook Street…….’ Book here.
Or, on Tuesday 6th October you could join the much-loved former Musical Director of the London Handel Festival Laurence Cummings at the house as he presents an original programme of music drawn from Handel’s extensive correspondence, interwoven with readings from the letters themselves. Book here.
Or… You could move round the corner to St George’s Hanover Square on Tuesday 3rd November for a celebration of Handel and the New Society. ‘Moved by the plight of impoverished and ailing colleagues, a group of London’s foremost musicians, including Handel, Boyce, Arne and Greene, came together in 1738 to establish a new society: the Fund for Decay’d Musicians. A charity that still exists today, now known as the Royal Society of Musicians.’ Book here.
