Run down on the Highgate Festival

June is definitely festival month – what with the Platinum Jubilee AND the Highgate Festival!! Loads of stuff going on at the latter – and especially loads of music.

Details of our contribution below – and all of our concerts come with a free glass of wine or Bucks Fizz!!

So…..

16th June – Balladeste – Songs without Words

Preetha Narayanan (violin) and Tara Franks (cello player and sister of Clemmie who, as a member of Voice Trio, sang at our wonderful Hildegard of Bingen concert in November) explore the sound potential of their two string instruments.  Combining contemporary minimalism, Indian classical and folk, they will be playing all original repertoire from their albums ‘Relic’ and ‘Beyond Breath’.

6.30pm at the chapel –  £20 to include a free glass of wine.

18th June – Lunchtime Viola recital with Charles Bodman Whittacker

Charles Bodman Whittacker, who gave us a lovely concert with his Alacris Quartet at the 2021 festival, accompanied by pianist Roy Howat will be playing a lunchtime concert for us: four pieces that celebrate the warm, rich tones of the viola.
Frank Bridge Two Pieces (1905-8)
Éric Tanguy Rhapsodie (2017) UK Premier
Paul Hindemith Sonata for solo viola Op. 25 No. 1 (1922)
Johannes Brahms Sonata in F Minor Op. 120 No.1 (1894)

1pm at the chapel –  £20 to include a free glass of Bucks fizz.
Go here for more details and to book tickets.

19th June – The Reliables

For the Highgate Society’s Sunday lunchtime concert on the 19th we going ‘all Highgate’ with The Reliables – a jazz group led by our very own Robert Pfeiffer, a Cholmeley Crescent resident for 25 years and a licensed Reader at St Michael’s for 15 years!
Robert on guitar, David Barrows on sax and Michael Searl on bass, play classy jazz in the hard bop tradition but stretching the boundaries – cool but swinging…..

12 noon at 10A South Grove –  £15 to include a free glass of Bucks Fizz.
Go here for more details and to book tickets.

Shame Hilary! But when business calls. Will you be back for the 7th July and the first one in the house – with supper…? If so, I suggest you book up before you head off as there are not that many tickets left. M
