Even those who have never actually heard of Flanders and Swann have been known ‘to wallow in glorious mud’ or even to wonder what sort of an animal a GNU actually was. For those of us who remember them in person – what delightful memories.
So we are extremely happy that on July 8th William Godfree and Michael Mates are to bring them both back to life for us with renderings of, among other favourites:
The Gas Man Cometh
The Sloth
Misalliance
Transport of Delight
The Slow Train
A Song of the Weather
and – of course – The Hippopotamus and the GNU
Please make sure you are in good voice as I am sure that the temptation to sing along will be irresistible.
Meanwhile, on the buffet tables will be, among other things…..
Pineapple and cheese cube ‘hedgehogs’
Prawn cocktails
Coronation chicken with rice, corn and pea salad
Black Forest gateau
Book here for Flanders and Swann – £30 to include buffet supper and wine.
Lunchtime on June 25th
But before we get to July 8th, don’t forget that at lunchtime on June 25th we will have the second of our Philharmonia’s MMSF Instrumental Fellowship Programme events – a harp recital with MMSF fellow, Aisha Palmer. Her programme will encompass music from Bach to Grace Williams and contemporary Welsh composer Rhian Samuel.
Book here – £15 to include a refreshing glass of wine.
Islington Festival – 5th-25th July
And don’t forget that the Islington Festival kicks off on July 5th – 15 days of great chamber music and much, much else. Check out what is on offer here.
