Although much of Camilla’s programme on March 7th will be classical French harp music – by composers such as Debussy or Fauré – she will also be treating us to the theme from The Godfather, the ‘Cavatina’ from the Deerhunter – and more. All, as she say, perfectly suited to the harp.
But maybe not that surprising as, over the last 50 years the harp has very much broken free from the concert platform. So Camilla and her fellow harpists can find themselves playing, as she has done, on Strictly or Later with Jools Holland, performing with Beyoncé or Jay-Z – or in the pit for the Wizard of Oz! To hear some of her less conventional gigs, check into her site here.
But for more traditional harp enthusiasts, there will be plenty to savour on the 7th. Such as….
J. S. BACH – Andante from Violin Sonata No. 2
Claude DEBUSSY – Première Arabesque
Gabriel FAURÉ – Une Chatelaine en sa tour
Astor PIAZZOLLA – Invierno Porteno
Reinhold GLIÈRE – Impromptu for harp
Nino ROTA – Sarabande and Toccata
Marcel TOURNIER – Au Matin
And, of course, lots of wine and a delicous buffet supper, included in the cost of the ticket – a bargain at only £28.
