Jazz in the garden – Sunday August 13th

Salon Music is having a summer party. Well, to be strictly accurate, Salon Music, the FreeFrom Food Awards, 33 Hampstead Lane, Boris and I are having a summer party – and we are hoping that you will all join us – meeting up with old friends and making new ones.

To entertain us will be some old friends, Sol Grimshaw and his Gypsy band.

Sol and his group – sketched here by our in house artist Alison Gardiner – first appeared at a Highgate Society Sunday lunchtime concert but they have been heard a number of times around Highgate since then.

They will be playing twice during the afternoon –
once at around 3 o’clock and then again at about 5pm.
We will be welcoming guests in the garden (weather permitting) whenever they feel like joining us
from 1.30pm through till 7.30 in the evening. **
Bread, cheese, snacks, beer and wine (including GF/DF/vegan) will be on tap throughout.

I am happy to say that this is a party rather than a paying event. I will be reimbursing the musicians for their labours – but – if you were up for making a small donation to swell their take home pot, they would really appreciate it. Details on how on the booking page.

And – even though this is a free event please ‘book’ in here so that we have some idea of how many people will be coming.
We look forward to seeing you all – and your partners of course – on 13th August!

** The Lord Chamberlain’s Men

At 7.30 on the evening of August 13th The Lord Chamberlain’s Men will be playing Romeo and Juliet in the gardens at Kenwood House. Kenwood is less than 15 minutes walk from Hampstead Lane and this might be a fine way to end your Sunday’s entertainment. I saw them last year in As You Like It  (as seen above) and  they were terrific.
‘One of the UK’s finest touring theatre companies – with a history stretching back to William Shakespeare himself – present this great play as Shakespeare first saw it performed – in the open air, by an all male cast and with Elizabethan costumes, music and dance.’
You can book tickets here.

Upcoming concerts:

9th September – Highgate School chapel – The Voice Trio – Lighter Patterns of Love.  Book here.

24th September – Hampstead Lane.  Madeleine Mitchell – Violin Conversations and other pieces.  Book here.

4th November – Hampstead Lane. Nathaniel Mander – the Baroque Spinet. More details to come very soon.
