Those of you who came to the delightful Korros Ensemble concert here in July will be excited to hear that many of the pieces they played are now available on their new album Nostalgica. These include not only the rediscovered Elizabeth Poston pieces that they have pioneered, but music by contemporary women composers, Cheryl Frances Hoad and harpist Catrin Finch.
And, even better, you can hear some of them live at the launch of the album on 5th December in the beautiful chapel at The House of St Barnabas in Greek Street in Soho. Go here to get yourself a ticket which will include a drink with the group after the performance.
Listening to Korros play is of course a delight in itself – but you might also be interested in the venue, The House of St Barnabas – the home of a homelessness charity which operates, somewhat surprisingly, out of a Grade 1 listed building in Soho. Their mission is ‘to break the cycle of homelessness and social exclusion in London’. They aim to do so by running a social enterprise, not-for-profit members’ club in which they can train, educate and help people back into lasting paid work.
Check out their website – and maybe take in one of their exhibitions or their permanent art collections while you are there. The charity is a member of Own Art – a fascinating initiative of itself.
